9:40 pm - Mexico
Back from Mexico.... and I had a wonderful time. I am glad I got to take a little time off relaxing. Now at work and home I have to play catch up from the whole trip.

Totally worth it though!

Even the 20+ mosquito bites aren't phasing me! :)

9:47 pm - All set
Comic Con here I come.

I got tickets on craigslist.

So I have been mighty busy lately.... been an outdoor type of summer. Three weeks ago we went to Krause Springs, and if you haven't ever been I highly recommend it. It was a nice drive out there, not as long as a walk as it is to Hamilton Pool, and there are rope swings and ledges to jump off into the water. The water was nice and cool, but not freezing which is a big plus for me.

Then the weekend after we rented a boat and hung out at the lake. I love just hanging out in the water sipping on my sippy cup (a homemade wine cooler) and relaxing. Got a little sunburn but my Mexican skin was able to handle it. As many of you who know me, this is a feat, cause i am white as can be :) Tan Sara? I don't think many thought it was possible.....

Last weekend we went tubing and again with the sippy cup. That was relaxing and a dinner at the Gristmill is always good after a day on the Guadalupe. Mmmm chicken fried steak.

Then there has been the shopping. Oh the cute clothes I have been buying. I have received more complements on my new wardrobe than I ever expected....

So life is good. And LA this weekend. Woo hoo!

8:01 am - This weekend
So I planned a trip to LA this weekend, I am visiting a vendor on Friday then decided to stay the weekend since one of my best friends lives out there.

We were talking about it last night and wanted to go to Comic con cause it is the same weekend. Unfortunately it looks like there are no more memberships :(

10:53 am - Birthday
I love birthdays.

After going over to a friends house, we went and sang karaoke at Austin Karaoke. I really can't sing, but is that really singing or it is just yelling at the top of your lungs?

Fun times.

9:22 am - hot
So the AC is out at the house. I am waiting for the ac guy to come and rescue me from the 85 degree house.

In other news I got the email from the factlist saying they need goodies for the Nebulas this weekend. I am drawing a blank as to what to make. Any suggestions?

7:14 pm - Back!
Well I am back from Scotland. I am really enjoying all the home comforts, the snuggling of kitties, and the being able to change the channel if I don't want to watch what is on the tv :)

Keith's parents gave us a calendar they made online for Christmas, which has everyone's birthdays on it. *hint hint... Sara you gotta send birthday cards to people who are having birthdays.... hint hint* I am going to hang it up at work so I can look at it everyday :)

I am, as always, motivated by January. I want to do something cool, something fun, something different. I just can't figure out what it is.

11:53 am - New cooking thingy!
So I was at Specs the other day and decided to splurge.... I have been admiring truffle oil for quite some time now at all the fancy grocery stores in town. I got some and tried it out. Oh my gawd I am in love! :)

I made roasted red potatoes in the oven then tossed them with a small amount of truffle oil. Delicious!

10:43 pm - Cupcakes!
So our work has had a number of bake sales recently for charitable purposes. Me being the crafty one, I decided I didn't want to make baked goods (and frankly I feel guilty about eating all that sugary goodness...) but I wanted to make something for the bake sale, so I crafted. (suprise suprise I know)

Think anyone will donate money for my cupcakes?

Will really never end now.

12:13 pm - One of four requests
ArmadilloCon brought a number of requests for Sara stuff.

Three of the four requests were for other cons, which I will start working on.

But I was asked for some rocketship earrings as well, and this is what I came up with....Collapse )

7:06 pm - tada!
Okay I finished my second book purse. I didn't want to start out with kitty fabric and screw it up, so I think I have all the kinks out.

Put behind a cut to not have huge pictures!

Books books booksCollapse )

9:01 pm - I did it
I spent the last two months thinking about book purse linings. I knew if I just did it I would figure it out.... but oh no, it plagued my thoughts. I kept thinking, that would never work, but when I sat down and tried it, I finally got it!

So my first book purse is done. And it is great! The second one will be even better.

I have kitty fabric for the next linings..... woo hoo!

I have taken pictures but don't have the cable to upload to the computer. poo.

10:11 am - artist block
I am going through one of my non crafty phases again, and I really feel crappy about it.

Work should never get the best of me like it has been. Too much to do, and no help with any of it.

I created a shadow box last week though, the first thing in a while. Kinda different from my normal shadowboxes, there is only a little bit of watercolors on there to make it interesting. And of course shrinky dinks.

Which reminds me I have been asked to write an article for Latinitas, an online magazine for young Latinas. I guess I should start that soon.

12:16 pm
We went to Santa Barbara last weekend for my brother's graduation from college (he got a a degree in philosophy and psychology)

He didn't want to walk with the people in his major, so we went to the computer science ceremony. The speaker was one of the guys from the show Mythbuster's which was pretty entertaining.

It is always great to see the family, and past year I have seen them more than in the past 5! With the wedding, and then Thanksgiving and now graduation.

It was weird as well for me, because my brother is my half brother, and so his mom and grandparents were there. They all commented that I looked the same as always, and that they missed me over the years, which was really nice. But you know how you remember people in your mind, it is always an exaggerated reality.

8:27 pm - New Idea
So I have thought if Austin would bid for another world type convention, what would be cool was to have a little book made out of one piece of paper (folded a certain way to make pages) with images of why austin was the place to go, something that could be handed out at other conventions. The cool thing about this is that the convention would only need to have a one sided sheet printed but would have a handout that no one had seen before.... a little interesting book.

I wrote an article on this a long time ago, but it has been lost in the web.... and a quick search on the web I can't find the carol duval segment where I first saw this idea.

While thinking about the ArmadilloCon gift baskets tonight I thought..... we have all these cool guitars scattered around downtown now, we should make a book for the gift baskets with the same principle! Something that is a cool souvenir of Austin that the guests can take away with them. And since i work downtown it wouldn't be that hard to get pictures of these guitars.

Edit- I found it! http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_paper_crafts_origami/article/0,,HGTV_3293_1396725,00.html

9:36 pm - My awesome choice in movies.
I was laughing at myself on Sunday. I was sort of watching two movies at the same time, one I was really watching, the other I was flipping to when there were commercials. And really that is all I had to watch, cause I have seen it so many times that it was good enough to watch in three minute increments.

Heathers and Clueless.

Yes, there is something to be said for silly teenage movies. Heathers I haven't seen in years, but I can say it is one of my favorite movies ever. I just love that genre of dark comedies, and add in silly teenage hijinks and I am hooked. And yet, there is that "serious" message that I just ignore everytime I watch it (I never pay attention to that stuff). But there is a gritty-ness (I know I know it isn't a word) that is missing from a lot of other movies that have tried to fit in that category.

And then there is Clueless. I don't know why I like that movie so much. Maybe it is because I knew people like that in high school. Or I wanted to... Or maybe I just want to wear the clothes they are wearing in half the movie. That over the top fashion that I don't have the cajones to wear out in public..... I have learned my lesson about wearing school girl outfits in public. Never. again.

While they are both high school teenage movies, you know there are such different outcomes, one the boy and girl kiss the other the boy blows himself up. Ah those silly teenagers!

9:56 pm - food :)
Tonight we had a wonderful dinner.

Wontons stuffed with roasted garlic and eggplant with a salad with roasted tomatoes and homemade croutons and a light citrus dressing.

The main course was a roasted pepper rice and breaded pork marinated in a light mustard saucebefore breaded with Panko breadcrumbs.

For dessert we had a chocolate Napoleon with sugared raspberries in a brandy.

No wonder I am gaining weight. Ha.
